To-Do List : The CBC

Whether it's Peter Mansbridge's aging frown or the Current's long-winded-lefty introductions, we are all surrounded by the CBC. Now don't batten down the hatches and load the shotguns just yet. I have recently made a couple of trips to the CBC's website looking at historical Canadian events. It was actually impressive the organization and distribution of content. I know what some are thinking, I'm not going soft and I haven't mixed the blue pills with molson again. Maybe the CBC has a place amoung us, not as a media company, but as a historical Canadian content manager. Why? Well, first of all the public broadcasting budget could be removed or seriously reduced and they are sitting on the best collection of Canadian historical content. It would take away their power in the situation to immediately bring the option to the viewer. The business of opinion making would be completely off the table. They would only have the power of reflection on any given situation. Some shuttered when they read that last line, but consider this, did you watch the "Secret Mulroney Tapes"? I had to remind myself I was watching CBC at every commercial break. Mulroney was a victim at every turn according to them. If their perspective is of that position on most events; the conservatism message may have a hope of showing its' face on Canada's public broadcaster, er, historical content manager, once again. Perhaps the CBC turns it head in a left to right direction while observing a situation. As the situation approaches the CBC is focused left and predictions are made. As the situation appears before them the CBC focuses direct centre and opinions are given. As the situation passes and drifts off into the distance, the CBC turns right to make its' final observations.

The chance of the CBC higher ups having an epiphany is almost nil, but it is intersting to think of them as contributing to the protection of Canadian history.

CBC is Canada...should we flush our canadian creativity and import American clutural television ...loaded with flashy commercials and heavy reliance on corporate donations. Is "left" creativity and eloquent programming, would you rather FOW News take over? CBC compared to PBS or any other public television is in no comparison. CBC gives off excellent programming and comes off as self-sufficient...PBS looks down rotten and lonely...I think we've done an excellent job with our public broadcasting.

Interesting comments Joe...

I'm not as practiced in mental jumping. I just can't make the bridge between the CBC and excellent programming. But that's entertainment, all relative.

Let's talk absolutes.

I like the word donations. You mentioned it when you spoke of FOX News and Corporations. I too am firmly set against donations to assist a business on life support. If they can't breath on their own, pull the plug. I'm sure that if the donation plug were pulled from FOX News they would continue as one would when hitting a bump in the road.

If you were to take the taxpayer donation plug out of the CBC's system, they would need to pair down to such a level that they may as well shut down.

I would challenge you to cite examples of the CBC's "self-sufficient" management without the $900 million dollars given to them annually.

And lastly the trademark agrument of the CBC supporter: "flush our creativity and import Amercian cultural television" (thank you for at least capitalizing the A in American). It says something about a country's ability to maintain its' independant status, culturally, creatively or otherwise when if a public broadcaster was to fold its' hand the country would follow shortly after in all aspects.

Ask yourself the reasonability question, does that seem true?

Good discussion!

WILL CANCERGATE TOPPLE MARTIN?

Details of the latest scandal is spreading like wildfire across Canada after first being detailed on the blog http://www.rghs2004.blogspot.com/

Originally called The Valeri Scandal, it is a horrible tale of the Liberal Government blocking an investigation of RCMP conspiracy and corruption.

This Liberal cover up will come specially as horrible news to any Canadian who has been affected directly or indirectly with cancer.

A Canadian had a concept to raise tens of millions of dollars through the sale of his golf brand merchandise worldwide.

His concept was so appealing, a USA Foundation with four Past USA Presidents on its Board, after seeing his incredible results at several major golf tournaments, committed in writing to assist by doubling anything he raised!

A financial partner, who had gained insights into the operation, stole assets worth half a million dollars, effectively shutting down the operation.

The Niagara police, the same who had bungled the Bernardo-Holmolka case bungled this white-collar crime as well, (for whatever reason refusing to even examine key evidence in the paper trail).

The RCMP were called in and in an obvious act of blue brotherhood, conspired to shut down the case.

The firm was blocked in all attempts to receive justice as it worked its way up through every judicial and political step on Canada’s ladder of justice.

Turning successively to his Member of Parliament, Tony Valeri and the Prime Minister of Canada, they evidently decided, through total inaction, to cover up for the RCMP, effectively destroying any chance of returning the firm to its path of raising millions for cancer research.

Losses to date include up to US$150,000,000 for cancer research, plus the resulting tens of millions lost in exports for Canada, dozens of jobs lost, spin off contracts for other Canadian companies lost and millions in taxes for the Federal Finance Department lost.

The entrepreneur has explained several of the mysterious road blocks he encountered, “The Deputy Prime Minister wrote to say she was handling the case on behalf of Martin. As soon as I mentioned the RCMP conspiracy, she cut off all communication between us and the PMO. The police refused to release their report. Finally, after months, it was forwarded to me, after forcing its release through the Freedom of Information Act. Someone had whited out the Police Report! The list of irregularities such as these is endless. There is no justice in Canada when the RCMP has been caught in a conspiracy. Everyone in our justice and political system, up to and including the Prime Minister of Canada, covers up for the RCMP.”

This is Cancergate ~ our National Disgrace.
